Rutterkin
Formed in early 2018, St. Petersburg, FL’s Rutterkin have released a steady stream of EPs, each one more fully realizing the group’s dynamic mix of Lifetime’s boy-next-door melodic hardcore and Disintegaration-era Cure’s etherial soundscapes. Singer/guitarist James Pendleton delivers each line like its his last, putting the listener right in the room with each breath. Meanwhile, guitarist Chris Stellard’s steady riffage, bassist Dave Conrad and drummer Ryan Metcalf’s buoyant rhythms tightly navigate every verse and chorus with thunderous aplomb. The end result is a band that walks the edge between Jubilant and sorrowful, powerful and vulnerable. It’s the kind of soulful punk that is equal parts raucous house show and precious mixtape. Oh, and they put on a hell of a live show.
